Three numbers move, and they move in an order. Ask for them in that order and you will not be flattered by the report.
The first is the count of enquiries the measurement can see, set against the number the business actually received. On most sites those two disagree at the start, sometimes badly, and closing that gap is the first month's work. Nothing after it can be trusted until it is closed.
The second is the stopping point that was fixed. One screen, one form, one step, measured against its own baseline rather than against the site as a whole, because the site as a whole moves for reasons that have nothing to do with us.
The third is the slowest and the one that decides everything, the share of all visitors who enquire, over a stretch long enough to mean something.
A bad month reads like this. A change was made, it was measured, and it lost, or too few people arrived for it to reach a verdict at all. Both go into the report in the words a win would get.
